What Is Kaal Sarp Yoga?

Kaal Sarp Yoga (or Dosh) is formed when all seven classical planets sit between Rahu and Ketu in a birth chart. A plain-language explanation of what it means and doesn't mean.

By Bharat Yatra Editorial Team

Kaal Sarp Yoga — sometimes called Kaal Sarp Dosh — is a chart pattern in Vedic astrology formed when all seven classical planets (Sun through Saturn) are positioned on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis, the two lunar nodes. There are traditionally said to be several variations of this pattern depending on which houses Rahu and Ketu occupy.

A Word of Caution

Kaal Sarp Yoga has become one of the most commercially exploited terms in popular astrology, with some practitioners using it to create urgency around expensive remedies. A careful astrologer treats it as one chart factor among many — never as a chart's entire story, and never as grounds for alarmist claims.

Traditional Perspective

In traditional interpretation, this yoga is associated with intensity, karmic themes and periods of struggle followed by growth — again, varying significantly based on the rest of the chart. Some astrologers regard certain forms of the yoga as more challenging than others, while some modern scholars question how much weight it deserves at all.

Where families choose to address it through traditional worship, this may include Rahu–Ketu-related puja or a Navagraha visit similar to that undertaken for Sade Sati. We present this purely as devotional and cultural tradition — not as medical, legal or financial guidance, and not as a guarantee of any specific result.
